The cry of Christians in the Arab world

What we have witnessed throughout this past year and last was a change of power, history and you can say identity, within the Arab world today. With Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, some parts of Algeria and Morocco and other Arab countries people have stood up for justice, democracy and freedom, freedom for all people in their “faith,” but has the Arab spring really brought freedom to all people or has it just come to the minority that desires religious freedom mainly other than the economy getting fixed and bringing forth a leader who will bring freedom and democracy.

The truth is people were getting oppressed through the Arab world with dictatorship, for example Ben Ali taking money out illegally from the nation and illegally acquiring real estate and other assets abroad, what the Arab spring has brought was the people to riot in a way for their voices to be heard across the world with the man in Tunisia who set himself ablaze to prove a point of social injustice within the nation. When I have went to Egypt at one point, for me to see the poverty in Egypt was massive for a country that has been one of the Seven Wonders of the World, it made me think where is the wealth of the country being used for?  Than Mubarak flees the country because of corruption of money laundry that was happening.

The Islamist groups that have grown within the country wanted to bring a change in society, freedom and democracy whereby everyone has a right to vote for whomever and bring financial stability but is this, the real truth? Christians around the Arab countries have suffered even more than they are suffering today. People in Algeria are crying out and praying that they will have a leader who will not bring suffering unto Christians within Algeria, Just weeks ago we see that the Islamists group didn’t win their votes.

In Egypt with Pope Shenouda death Christians feel that they have lost their spiritual leader who has stood for them and stood for what is truth and for Christian values, but this shouldn’t be the case, Christians across the Arab world should stand firm in their faith and their lives will show the light of Christ even in this dark time that is coming. Has the Arab spring really brought freedom and justice? The answer can be yes and no, yes in the sense that all people now that they have the freedom to vote for whoever they want in power and to get back justice. No because not all people benefit from this, such as Christians who are dying in this so called political war.

Jesus the blessed Lord said “my kingdom is not of this world,” and what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his soul”? Christians have suffered for their identity and their lives in this event of time. Our pray today is for the Christians who live in this time of distress of these countries and build them up and also to pray for the right leader to come into power.

The Lord has said: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
